Booking Hostels With Your IPhone: Hostel Hero

If you are lucky enough to have a Apple iphone or ipod touch you can download Hostel Hero for free. Hostel Hero is a app for booking hostels and they currently have hostels listed from 150 different countries.

You can download content about hostels so that you can view it offline at a later date. With Hostel Hero you can also book your hostel via your iphone/ipod touch. This is very useful for those flashpackers carrying their iphones around the world. Personally I prefer the old fashioned way of travel by simply turning up and attempting to find a place to stay, but Hostel Hero will certainly prove useful to many.

Hostel Hero has plenty of hostel results with popular backpacking destinations such as Australia, but less so with places off the beaten track. This will probably improve as the application grows.

Do you currently use and cool travel apps? Do you think you’d use Hostel Hero? Let us know in the comments.

  1. Me again.

I've know about Hostel Hero for about a month now, pretty much from when I got sent their posters to put up in my hostel.

I don't have an iPhone as running my own place I don't get out too much and really don't need an all singing all dancing mobile phone/camera/mp3 player/washing machine/caravan combo.

Not having one obviously means that I haven't had the chance to peruse the app. Having said that I do know that hostel hero uses the Hostelworld portal.

So for now I can see the great advantages of this app as HW are one of the 'big two' booking agents for hostels but it'll be interesting to see when Hostelbookers folow suit. The advantage of this being that unlike HW they don't charge a booking fee.

    Toodle Pip for now.

  2. Hi RG,

Thanks for the comment some great pointers, especially hostel hero using hostelworld.

It's great that it's free and there is no booking fee, well for the backpacker anyway I guess the hostels much be charged instead.

    Thanks,

  3. Hello TravMonkey,

Thanks for sharing Hostel Hero. I just downloaded and tried it out. it is a great application !

I also have an iPhone app to share. it’s called bluewalks mobile. you can download it http://www.bluewalks.com/iphone.

Our idea is give travelers customized maps with useful info (about the city) that are shared by travelers or traveling site like TravMonkey. Check it out :)

  4. Thanks Bryan,

I'll take a look at bluewalks.

  5. Great! Tell me what you think about it :)

One more thing, maybe for your next travel entry, you can create a walk with all the photos and description inserted. The walk can then be embedded into your website or blog post. like how this blogger did http://bit.ly/IvsGw n_n

    try it out :)

    Best,

  6. I found HostelHero app while wandering in iTunes searching for if any app for backpackers exist.

Smart, easy. I’d definitely use it during my travels.

  7. Hi Hostelio,

Yeh I think if I was traveling with an iphone I'll probably give it a go too. I think this type of technology is only going to get bigger.

    Thanks,
