Croatia is a country of many firsts. The first traces of man i.e. the Neanderthal have been found here. Ironically, the earliest traces of stone tools gave way to the first necktie or cravat. The latter is the preferred name, given to this fashion item by the Croats, a symbol of elegance and culture dating back to the 17th century.Geographically speaking, Croatia has a lot to offer. Nearly 2000 kilometres of coastline and over 1000 islands (though very few are inhabited) are waiting to be explored by you. Crystal clear water, fabulous seafood and stunning hotels make this an incredible holiday destination. Needless to say, with all those beaches, you will easily find a few to get your kit completely off as is the custom around here. Possibly the absence of sharks and prominence of pebble beaches, makes skinny dipping that much safer. Make sure you pack some sunscreen. For bird watching of a different kind, the Slavonia's Kopački Rit Nature Park has many resident and migrant species.Outdoor sports are plentiful with everything from rock climbing, mountain biking, white water rafting, sea kayaking and scuba diving.Several UNESCO heritage sites are found in this country.Make sure you catch the Dubrovnik Summer Festival for music concerts and theatre performances, enjoyed al fresco during the warm summer nights.Head out of the capital to Hvar and enjoy some of the local wines. The area is also known for the abundance of lavender.Spend some Kuna (HRK) and have a good time. Nestled between Slovenia and Bosnia, Italy is also just a ferry ride away
