The airplanes kept going up and they kept landing. They kept going up, and they kept landing. Over and over and over again, hundreds of times per day. And never once did a plane crash at that airport. This made me understand at a very visceral level just how safe air travel is.

Personally, I lost all fear of flying after living close to an airport for a few years. Why do we consider travel a basic desire nowadays? I especially like how George Santayana puts it in The Philosophy of Travel: "We need sometimes to escape into open solitudes, into aimlessness, into the moral holiday of running some pure hazard, in order to sharpen the edge of life, to taste hardship, and to be compelled to work desperately for a moment at no matter what." Do we travel to lose ourselves or to find ourselves? In order to find the WHERE, WHEN or HOW to travel, we need to rediscover the pure pleasure of travels and the meaning of our own inner journey and rediscovery.

why do we travel? Although I've been flying since I was 1 year old, and across continents, while getting older I started growing a fear of flying. Although all these tips are fantastic, I wanted to add one: becoming a fearless flier is all about feeling comfortable. So make your plane trip as comfortable as possible! Bring everything that makes you feel at ease. Music and your own pillow are a good start.
Last, I wanted to state that we're all different, that's why making ourselves as comfortable as we can is important. I, for example, although I am scared of flying, find the window seat the most comforting. Paranoia strikes the worst if I'm in the middle...

Funny enough, I'm sitting at Gatwick getting ready to go to Barcelona.
